The Best Mattress for a Better Night's Sleep
Buying a new mattress? Here are tips for finding the right mattress for you.
You spend about a third of every day in bed. Whether that time is spent blissfully slumbering -- or tossing and turning -- depends a lot on your mattress.
"A mattress can impact a person's sleep," says Michael Decker, PhD, RN, associate professor at Georgia State University and spokesman for the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
One way that your mattress affects your sleep has to do with the network of fine blood vessels, called capillaries, that runs underneath your skin.

Top 5 Drugs That Can Cause Pain
Imagine living in pain for years only to find out that one of your medications is the reason that you are in pain. Medications are supposed to help not hurt, right? Unfortunately, some commonly used drugs can cause pain, even the ones available without a prescription. Some cause headaches, others cause foot pain. Where ever there is pain, a medication could be the root cause of it.

INDEPENDENT NEWSPAPER wants info about WCA PLEASE
Message from the Independent. Please get in touch with them - we need to raise public awareness of what's happening:
We are really keen to focus on Atos throughout the Paralympics,so any help would be great.
I am really keen to speak to disabled people who have had the following experiences with the WCA:
Family member who committed suicide as a result of being found fit to work
Someone who turned up for their assessment to have it cancelled because no health professional around
Someone who has inaccurate information recorded by the assessor
I am totally open to anything new – so please do keep in touch and pass on my details (work number please).

N.B. I would like to point out to you all that the information in my eNewsletters does not necessarily infer endorsement by the charity Fibromyalgia Support for Surrey & Sussex.   Any advice or recommendation of a medical or legal nature must always be discussed with a qualified professional. The charity cannot be held responsible for omissions and/or errors.
Sites I refer you to are for information only.  They might conflict in their opinions, they might not even be medically sound, but I merely offer them for you to peruse and make your own judgements, accept or reject as you will.  Only by reading widely can we get an overall picture of fibromyalgia syndrome and how we can deal with its symptoms, learn to cope with them and still have a life.
I also include various awareness and local issues as well as general health considerations.    Anyone wishing to reproduce any of the above items in printed form should seek permission from the originators.

FMSSAS eNews 12.08.18

 Dear Reader
The Olympics are over with the Paralympics to follow.  All power to those who, despite their disabilities, will show the world what they are made of.  They will triumph over adversity.  But remember, (see article * below) they are not generally ‘chronically sick and disabled’ as are those with FM/ME/CFS.

*The Paralympics and the chronically sick and disabled, a press release.
“Chronically sick and disabled” is really not the same as “disabled”.
‘With the looming Paralympics, which will almost inevitably, given the government-sponsored hostile mood of much of the country, reflect badly on the chronically sick and disabled community, I thought it was timely to write this letter.
Not least because, when the Paralympics do arrive Grayling and Duncan Smith will use it as a stick to beat the chronically sick and disabled, ramping up disability hate – and hate crime – to insanely dangerous levels.’

Disability Rights UK work capability assessment (WCA) survey
‘The ‘Work Capability Assessment’ (WCA) is the testing system used to decide what support and out of work benefits disabled people can access. It is also used to move disabled people off incapacity benefits and onto either ‘Employment and Support Allowance’ (ESA, if found only partly fit for work or unable to work at all) or ‘Jobseeker’s Allowance’ (JSA, if found fully fit for work). ‘  If you have had a WCA please complete the survey to relate your experience.

Living With Insomnia: Get a Good Night's Sleep
When Pain Interrupts Your Sleep
Whether it’s from a sore lower back or throbbing tooth, pain is hard enough to deal with in the light of day. But pain at night that robs you of your much-needed sleep can be downright exhausting.
“An individual simply cannot get comfortable to fall asleep due to the discomfort of pain,” says Frank. J. Falco, MD, who specializes in pain management and sleep problems in Newark, Del. Plus, pain causes anxiety, which disrupts sleep even more.
In addition to preventing a person from falling asleep, pain also results in difficulty staying asleep. And once pain keeps you awake one night, it is likely to do the same thing again and again. Pain-related insomnia gets worse over time.

If you have insomnia, good communication between you and your doctor is crucial to helping you to get a better night’s rest. Your doctor will ask about your sleep problems, sleep habits, and medical history, among other things.
