Hi everyone
Welcome to those new to eNews membership, mostly attendees at the Fibromyalgia Conference at Chichester last weekend. There were around 100 people there and able to benefit from the knowledge of the numerous speakers. If you didn’t go, you missed a great opportunity. Next year’s conference is to be on the weekend of 26-29th April so if you missed it this year, do book the date for next year. I will be sending updates from time to time. I hope you will all find something to help you in the links from this message.

Spouse's Reaction May Affect Pain Management - Husbands appear more sensitive than wives, study says
Chronic pain can hinder communication between spouses, which, in turn, can impair the affected partner's ability to cope with the pain, according to a new study.
Previous research has shown that validation of a spouse's emotions (showing respect and acceptance) promotes emotional control, trust and closeness, while invalidation of emotions (showing hostility or no interest) increases emotional distance and is associated with poor adjustment within the marriage and depression.

Radiofrequency Ablation for Chronic Pain - What is radiofrequency ablation?
Radiofrequency ablation of nerves is a procedure that may be used to reduce certain kinds of chronic pain by preventing transmission of pain signals. It is a safe procedure in which a portion of nerve tissue is heated to cause an interruption in pain signals and reduce pain in that area. This procedure is sometimes called radiofrequency lesioning.

32 die a week after failing test for new incapacity benefit
More than a thousand sickness benefit claimants died last year after being told to get a job, we can reveal.
We've highlighted worries about the controversial medical tests for people claiming Employment Support Allowance which are being used to slash the country's welfare bill.
The Government has boasted that more than half of new claimants are found "fit to work" - failing to mention that over 300,000 have appealed the decision and almost 40% have won.

Nerve Pain Explained in a Slideshow
People with nerve pain feel it in different ways. For some, it's a stabbing pain in the middle of the night. For others, symptoms can include a chronic prickling, tingling, or burning they feel all day. Uncontrolled nerve pain can be hard to bear. But with treatment, it can often be adequately controlled.

Hypnosis, Meditation, and Relaxation for Pain Treatment
Stress and pain are intimately related. When being in pain causes stress or being stressed worsens pain, psychological therapies -- including hypnosis, meditation, and relaxation -- may help break the cycle.

N.B. I would like to point out to you all that the information in my eNewsletters does not necessarily infer endorsement by the charity Fibromyalgia Support for Surrey & Sussex (FMSSAS). Any advice or recommendation of a medical or legal nature must always be discussed with a qualified professional. The charity cannot be held responsible for omissions and/or errors.
Sites I refer you to are for information only. They might conflict in their opinions, they might not even be medically sound, but I merely offer them for you to peruse and make your own judgements, accept or reject as you will. Only by reading widely can we get an overall picture of fibromyalgia syndrome and how we can deal with its symptoms, learn to cope with them and still have a life.
I also include various awareness and local issues as well as general health considerations. Anyone wishing to reproduce any of the above items in printed form should seek permission from the originators.
