FMSSAS eNews 11.09.03

Hi there!
I hope you had an enjoyable Bank Holiday day on Monday.  It was a beautiful day – here anyway – and would have been great for a family outing, or just lounging in the garden.  I didn’t go anywhere!  Bank Holidays are no great deal when you are retired and/or incapacitated!  But then we can enjoy the garden any day, even if we can’t go out.  We mostly appreciate ours from the shelter of the conservatory!
Kelly Thompson has been supplying links for many months.  I am including her suggestions under "Kelly's Kontributions" from now on.  I do appreciate her input. Thank you Kelly.

Abnormal Brain Signals & Fibromyalgia Symptoms
Recent research out of Korea has linked abnormalities in 2 regions of the brain with fibromyalgia pain.   Researchers in this small study used a special brain scan called a blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) contrast fMRI to look for different reactions to pain in fibromyalgia and healthy controls in response to varying amounts of pressure.  Read more -

NHS Support Federation – Stop the Health Bill, still a dangerous prescription
Earlier this year NHS supporters joined together to persuade the government to re-think their flawed changes to our NHS. Ministers said they had listened. They reassured us that they would “never privatise the NHS”. But changes to the health bill do not protect the NHS from privatisation - in fact they continue to encourage it. Fatal flaws remain in the bill which will threaten the future of our health service. To protect the NHS we urgently need your help.

Foods That Fight Depression
If you find yourself feeling down, irritable, and moody, you may attribute it to any number of things. In fact, your eating habits have a lot to do with how you think and feel. The food you consume influences the chemical flow in your brain, contributing to your overall mood.

Fatigue, often extreme fatigue, is a key symptom of fibromyalgia.  For many, it can be even more debilitating than the pain but "doctors generally tend to shy away from prescribing medications to treat fatigue," says HealthCentral FM patient expert Karen Lee Richards.

Well, this has turned out to be a mega bumper bundle.  Hope it makes up for last week’s sparcity.  I only hope it does not give you information overload!  I would love to hear how the Wiston Tea Party went.  Any reports?

Sites I refer you to are for information only.  They might conflict in their opinions, they might not even be medically sound, but I merely offer them for you to peruse and make your own judgements, accept or reject as you will.  Only by reading widely can we get an overall picture of fibromyalgia syndrome and how we can deal with its symptoms, learn to cope with them and still have a life.  I also include various awareness and local issues as well as general health considerations.  Anyone wishing to reproduce any of the above items in printed form should seek permission from the originators.
